BUCKLEY B
The Buckley Project was a three staged, two-year project spanning 190,000 square meters. The project included the relocation of 70% of the former military housing on the site, which left approximately 125 houses for demolition due to poor condition or Asbestos levels making them ineligible for the removal process.
The remediation project was around the houses and into the ground to chase both current and redundant service systems, which were all made of Asbestos. The outcome was the handing over of clean ground tested with no presence of asbestos. The project was successful, coming in under budget and well within projected time frames.
SUNDERLAND FARMERS MARKET
This project encompassed the removal of six engineering buildings with the intention of redeveloping the area into offices and a farmers market. The construction of the buildings included asbestos in the flooring and Super Six roofing in areas formally used for high heat activities. The external hanger doors were Super Six and the metal structure was degraded requiring major works for clearance.
The buildings were very old and roof spaces were covered in bird droppings encapsulating the fibres in the rafters. The clean was extensive and challenging. However the project was successful and the site was cleared for use after a full clean was undertaken plus a final re-clean to ensure swabs would return the right outcome.
SUNDERLAND HANGER
The project was to demolish the offices on the inside of the hanger, then remove Asbestos Super Six from around the whole building. This hangar was 14 meters high and 60 meters wide and used to house the Sunderland plane when it came into Hobsonville Point. The hanger was scaffolded to an engineer’s design and shrink-wrapped to manage air release.
The base structure was required to remain in tact due to heritage protection so air monitoring and swab samples gave this building its full clearance.
BOMB POINT
Bomb Point consists of 13 heritage ammunition storage bunkers built in1939.
The project included Asbestos removal of all Super Six roofs across these bunkers. A very careful methodology was executed to ensure the removal of Asbestos did not damage or contaminate other areas.
A full clean certified site was handed back to the council.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT UNIT
Youth Development Unit has hosted and housed many New Zealand youth through their leadership programme.
We were required to remove six housing barracks, the mess hall and storage units, working around a main contractor and many subcontractors on the one site. We successfully completed the work in a very tight time, coming in under budget.
